SPMT - Sharepoint Migration Tool - file deletion on incrementals?

Hi There,

I'm currently doing some testing with SPMT for a migration project we have coming up. I've noticed during testing that when you run an incremental copy, files that have been deleted in the source filesystem are not deleting in the target Sharepoint library (we're migrating from local file server -> Sharepoint).

Is the any setting to delete files in the target library that have been deleted in the source? Kind of like the -MIR option of robocopy.

Thanks,

Olly

    Hello @Oliver Lennox

That is a expected behavior. As the name states the type is Incremental copy so it doesn't support "decremental". Incremental migration will only copy files if they are new or have been modified since the last migration, but will not remove or set for deletion files that are deleted on local.

Hope this helps with your query,

    Hello @Oliver Lennox

According to my research, The SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT) cannot support your needs.

The SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT) is a free and easy to use migration solution to help you migrate the content in the local file server to SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.

Once the migration is successful, any changes you make to the content in the local file system (Eg: edit files, delete files, add files...) will not affect the content that has been uploaded to the target Sharepoint Document library.

More information about SPMT Settings, please see the "SharePoint Migration Tool Settings" article.

    Thanks,
    Echo Du
