    Hello Norma Rhynold,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Q&A.

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble sending emails to yourself. I can certainly understand how frustrating it is to be flagged as spam by your own account when you are simply trying to save or move information.

To resolve this and help the automated filters recognize your activity as legitimate, please try the following steps:

    1. Perform a Web-Only Test

Before troubleshooting your apps or devices, we need to see if the issue is with the account itself or the connection method.

    • Log in to Outlook on the Web via a desktop browser.
    • Compose a new email to your own address using plain text only. For example, type: "I am sending this text to verify my internal routing." if this sends successfully, the filter was likely reacting to the "empty" nature of your previous attempts.

    2. Avoid Spam-Like Content

Automated security filters are very sensitive to emails that contain only a single link, a large attachment without text, or "trigger" words like "Invoice" or "Payment."

Solution: Always include a clear subject line and at least one full sentence of text in the body to help the system distinguish your mail from automated spam bots.

    3. Check Your IP Reputation

If you are using a VPN or a public Wi-Fi network, the IP address you are assigned might have a poor reputation, which makes the outgoing server more likely to flag your messages.

Solution: Try disconnecting from your VPN or switching to a different network (such as a mobile data hotspot) to see if the email sends successfully.

I hope these steps help you bypass the spam filter and regain the ability to send notes to yourself. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

    Best regards,

When Outlook.com flags a message sent to self as spam, it is usually due to how the service evaluates sender reputation, message content, or general sending restrictions.

    Use these checks and adjustments:

    1. Confirm the message can be sent at all
      • If the message has attachments larger than 25 MB, Outlook.com will not send it. Remove or reduce attachments and try again.
      • If a non‑delivery report ("delivery failed" or similar) appears, read the reason in the report. If it mentions spam, blocking, or blacklists, the message is being treated as spam by the service.
    2. Improve how Outlook.com sees the account as a sender
      • If anti‑virus software is scanning outgoing mail, look for options such as Internet Email Auto Protect or Internet Email Protection and temporarily turn them off, then send a test message.
      • Make sure the account has a clear display name set so the “From” identity looks normal and recognizable.
      • Send an email to the same Outlook.com address, open it, and reply to it. This helps establish normal, two‑way traffic on the account.
      • Add the own address to Contacts in Outlook.com so messages from that address are treated as known senders.
    3. Consider account age and sending limits
      • Newly created Outlook.com accounts can have stricter limits and filtering until some normal usage history is built up. Regular, legitimate use over time improves reputation and reduces false spam classification.
    4. Simplify the message content
      • If the problem happens only with certain messages, simplify the subject and body (remove suspicious wording, many links, or unusual formatting) and resend to see if it goes through.
    5. If messages are bouncing as spam
      • If the error text mentions being "blocked" or "listed in" a spam list, the sending server/account is being treated as a spam source. Follow the guidance under Sender Support in Outlook.com and Sent email in Outlook.com comes back "delivery failed" to match the specific error and apply the suggested fix.

If, after these steps, every message to self is still treated as spam, use the Outlook.com support guidance for senders to review any additional restrictions or reputation issues on the account.
