Switch Off S Model

Question

unable to switch off s mode. I've tried all the fixes and the command to stop it in MS Store just doesn't show up. The laptop has been reset to factory settings twice.

Many users have recently reported this issue, and based on feedback, the usual troubleshooting steps do not seem to resolve it.

This looks like a temporary glitch on Microsoft’s side, possibly due to a high number of users trying to switch out of S Mode at the same time. In most cases, waiting 24–48 hours allows the system to stabilize and the issue to resolve automatically.

If the issue is urgent and you still cannot switch out of S Mode, the alternative option is to perform a clean installation of Windows. If you choose to proceed, please make sure to back up all your important files first before continuing.

On Windows 11 in S mode, switching out is only supported through the Microsoft Store. If the “Switch out of S mode” option or command is not appearing, use the supported path and checks below.

1. Confirm edition and S mode status
   • Open Settings > System > Activation.
   • Under Edition, confirm it shows Windows 11 Home in S mode.
   • If it does not say “in S mode,” then S mode is already off.
2. Use the built‑in Store link for switching
   • In Settings > System > Activation, find the Switch to Windows 11 Pro (or similar) section.
   • Select the Go to the Store link in that section (not the Upgrade your edition of Windows link).
   • In Microsoft Store, the page should be Switch out of S mode (or similar).
   • Select Get and confirm. After the confirmation message, apps from outside Microsoft Store can be installed.
   If the Settings link is missing or broken, use the direct Store protocol link provided by Microsoft:
   • Open this link on the device:
     • Switch out of S Mode
   • When the Store page opens, select Get.
3. Important limitations and checks
   • Switching out of S mode is one‑way; it cannot be turned back on after switching.
   • There is no charge to switch out of S mode.
   • If the device belongs to an organization (work/school), the administrator can enforce S mode and block switching. In that case, contact the organization’s IT admin.
   • Windows 11 in S mode is only available on Windows 11 Home. If the device is Pro/Enterprise/Education in S mode and is still on Windows 10, it must switch out of S mode before upgrading to Windows 11.

If the Store page still does not appear or the Get button is missing after a factory reset, and the device is not organization‑managed, contact the device manufacturer or Microsoft Support with the exact edition and activation details, as the issue may be with the image or Store configuration on that device.
