    Dear @karuna hengaju,

To ensure I understand your request correctly and to support you as effectively as possible, I need more specific information from you:

    • Could you please provide a screenshot of your issue?
    • Could you please confirm which account you are using to start the Visio Plan 2 trial, your personal Microsoft account, or a work/school (business) account?
    • Which step are you stuck at while proceed to have a Visio trial?

The Visio Plan 2 trial is intended for work or school accounts (your organization/tenant login), so you cannot use personal account to start the Visio Plan 2 trial.

If you are using a personal account to engage the Visio Plan 2 trial, kindly sign out of all Microsoft accounts in the browser (you can also clear cookies and caches to make sure the previous account information is removed), then try again in an InPrivate/Incognito window (this avoids “wrong account already signed-in” issues). Install Visio or access Visio for the web - Microsoft Support

Next, go to https://visio.cloud.microsoft and sign in with your work or school account. If Visio for the web does not open or says you are unlicensed, that strongly indicates the trial license is not assigned to the account you are using. Please contact your IT Admin for assigning the trial license part. How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. Please try the steps above and let me know if they work. If not, we can continue working together to narrow this down.

The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.

As a moderator, I do not have the tools to investigate your specific account directly because this is a user-to-user support forum. Our role is limited to providing technical support on reported issues, requests, or ideas. However, I will try my best to support as clearly as possible.

Visio Plan 2 can be tried or used without buying a separate Microsoft 365 (Office) subscription, but a valid Visio license or Visio trial must be correctly assigned to the account. If the Visio Plan 2 trial “is not working,” the issue is almost always licensing/plan type or how Visio is being accessed.

Below is how Visio licensing and trials work, and what to check.

    1. Visio is always separate from Microsoft 365
    • Visio is not included in the standard Office/Microsoft 365 subscription; it is sold as a stand‑alone product or plan.
    • Having Microsoft 365 Basic/Personal/Family or similar does not automatically give Visio rights.
    • To use Visio beyond very limited scenarios, one of these is required:
      • Visio Plan 2 subscription
      • Visio Plan 1 subscription
      • A perpetual Visio Professional/Standard license (2016/2019/2021/2024)
    1. What each Visio plan actually gives
    • Visio Plan 2
      • Includes the full-featured Windows desktop app.
      • Also includes Visio for the web (browser-based).
    • Visio Plan 1
      • Only includes Visio for the web (no desktop app).
    • Visio in Microsoft 365
      • A lighter, browser-based Visio experience available in some Microsoft 365 plans.

If the trial is specifically “Visio Plan 2,” the account should be able to:

    • Install and use the desktop app (Plan 2 only), and
    • Use Visio for the web in a browser.
    1. How to access Visio for the web (works with Plan 1, Plan 2, or Visio in Microsoft 365)
    • Go to https://visio.cloud.microsoft.
    • Sign in with the work or school account that has the Visio license.
    • If the license is valid and active, the Visio home page and templates should appear.

If this page does not open or shows a licensing message, the Visio license is either missing, expired, or not assigned to that account.

    1. Why a Visio Plan 2 trial might “not work” Common causes based on the documentation:
    • No Visio license actually assigned
      • Even if a trial was started, the license must be assigned to the user account in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
      • If the account is not the admin, the organization’s Microsoft 365 admin must assign the Visio Plan 2 trial license.
    • Wrong plan for what is being used
      • If trying to install or use the desktop app but only a Plan 1 trial is active, the desktop app will not activate because Plan 1 is web-only.
    • Confusion with Microsoft 365 Basic
      • Microsoft 365 Basic only provides OneDrive storage and web/mobile Office apps; it does not include desktop Office or Visio.
      • If the device has desktop Office/Visio installed from an older or different subscription, those apps will stop working when that subscription ends, even if Microsoft 365 Basic is active.
    1. Relation to Microsoft 365 purchase
    • It is not mandatory to buy a full Microsoft 365 (Office) subscription just to use a Visio Plan 2 trial.
    • However:
      • A Visio Plan 2 subscription or trial is required.
      • That Visio license must be correctly assigned to the account.
    • If desktop Office apps are also needed (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the current Microsoft 365 plan does not include them (for example, Microsoft 365 Basic), a different Microsoft 365 plan (such as Personal/Family or a business plan with desktop apps) would be needed for those apps—but that is separate from Visio itself.
    1. Using Visio with Power BI (if that is where the issue appears)
    • Power BI has a Visio Visual integration.
    • All Microsoft 365 users get five free Visio Visual trial instances in Power BI that are fully editable and remain editable indefinitely.
    • After those five instances are used, unlicensed users can still view visuals and embed file links, but cannot fully edit them.
    • To continue editing Visio Visuals in Power BI beyond those free instances, a Visio Plan 1 or Plan 2 license is required.
    1. Practical next steps
    • Confirm which Visio plan is actually on the account (Plan 1 vs Plan 2 vs none).
    • If an admin manages licenses, request confirmation that the Visio Plan 2 trial license is assigned to the correct user.
    • If only Microsoft 365 Basic is present and no Visio plan is listed, Visio Plan 1 or Plan 2 must be purchased or a trial started from the Visio plans page.
    • For browser use, go to https://visio.cloud.microsoft and sign in with the licensed account to verify that Visio for the web opens without license errors.
