Factory reset PC
I want to factory reset my PC. Will Windows re-activate on my system if I use the same email as what I used when I first purchased the PC from out of the box? Windows was already installed on the system, I didn't have to enter any codes etc. Just my email and details.

If you will only do a reset from settings (Keep my files or Delete everything), it should be all good and not require any activation as long as you make sure that there are no hardware changes and you link your Microsoft Account by following the steps from the link below:

Q&A Assist2026-04-07T21:04:00.86+00:00 AI generated content. This question contains an answer created with AI from Q&A Assist. Learn moreIf the PC was bought with Windows 11 already installed and no product key was entered, activation normally uses either:
- An OEM product key embedded in the device firmware (BIOS/UEFI), or
- A digital license linked to the hardware and to the Microsoft account used during setup.
After a factory reset on the same PC:
- Windows should automatically reactivate once connected to the internet if the license is tied to the device hardware (typical for new/refurbished PCs with Windows preinstalled).
- Signing in with the same Microsoft account used originally helps ensure the digital license is recognized.
If activation does not happen automatically after reset, open:
- Settings > System > Activation (Windows 11)
- Use Troubleshoot or Change product key if prompted, or follow the path to Go to Store to purchase a new digital license if activation fails and no valid license is found.
If the device was pre-owned and the seller reused the key on too many PCs, activation might fail after reset; in that case a new product key or license would be required.
