Question

I noticed there are two subscriptions in my azure account under my account one with resources and the other without with any resources with the same name I didn't create the second what happened

Multiple subscriptions under the same Azure account, including ones that appear “empty” or unexpectedly created, are normal and can happen for several reasons:

1. Cloud subscriptions created automatically
   • Cloud subscriptions can be created when making certain purchases or enabling specific services, not only when explicitly creating a subscription in the Azure portal.
   • Some of these subscriptions may have no visible resources because they serve as containers for billing or specific products.
   • This explains why a second subscription with no resources and a system-generated or duplicated-looking name can appear even if it was not created manually.
2. Multiple subscriptions are common for billing and management
   • Azure supports having multiple subscriptions under the same account for separation of billing, environments (Dev/Test/Prod), or departments.
   • Each subscription is billed separately, even if they share the same account and similar or identical display names.
3. Viewing and managing subscriptions
   • All cloud subscriptions associated with the account can be viewed in the Azure portal under Subscriptions.
   • If a subscription is unused (no usage or activity for over 12 months), it may eventually be blocked and later deleted for security reasons, so leaving an unused empty subscription is not harmful but may eventually be cleaned up.
4. What to do next
   • If the extra subscription truly is not needed and contains no resources, it can typically be canceled, provided there are no special resources that block self-service cancellation.
   • If there is any doubt about how or why it was created, or if billing looks incorrect, open a support request from the Azure portal so Microsoft Support can review the subscription history and billing details.
