Yes, it is possible to unblock an Azure tenant that has been blocked due to inactivity, but only under certain conditions.

Here’s what you should know and do:

    • Microsoft blocks “inactive” tenants as part of their lifecycle management policies to optimize resources and for security reasons.
    • When a tenant is blocked for inactivity, an admin (global administrator) typically receives email notifications with instructions or warnings before the tenant is blocked.
    • To request unblocking:
      1. The tenant admin must follow any instructions included in Microsoft’s notification email (check both inbox and spam folders).
        1. If you don’t find any relevant emails, or if the email doesn’t include self-service unblock instructions, you must contact Microsoft Support directly from the Azure Portal or Microsoft 365 admin center. Provide the tenant name, associated email, and explain the situation.
          1. Microsoft will review your case. If the tenant meets criteria for unblocking (such as being within a retention or grace period), they can reactivate it. If the tenant is past the allowed recovery period, unblocking may not be possible, and data may have been deleted.
          • Act quickly: The longer a tenant remains blocked, the higher the risk that it cannot be recovered. Data and resources might be permanently deleted after a certain period.
