Hello,
Without a clean install, Windows 2008 servers cannot upgrade straight to 2016. You must first upgrade to 2012 and then upgrade to 2016.

This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Why is it so hard to get someone from MS to answer a direct question? They want a support contract to answer anything aside from "What is your name?"! All I want to know is what is the correct upgrade path for a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise to Windows Server 2016 Essentials? I want to by their product and they still want a support contract just to answer that question! Talk about customer NON-SERVICE... I just they just got so big they really don't care anymore... Heck I can't even select the version of software that I'm having an issue with.... The drop down only deals with workstation software!
If I'm in the wrong place to both voice my frustration and get a Server related question answered, can someone guide me to that site without a service contract?

There is no in-place upgrade supported path from 2008 R2 to 2016, but you really would not want to do this anyway because of risks / corruption carry forward.
