I'm in Vietnam with 13,000 Microsoft Rewards points. I can't redeem because geolocation verification fails and +84 phone numbers aren't supported. Please enable email verification for my account. The new interface also keeps showing errors when I try to redeem. Please consider reverting to the old interface or fixing the new one.

Vietnam (+84) is a supported country code for Microsoft verification in general, but Microsoft Rewards has specific restrictions that can prevent redemption even when points are available.

For Microsoft Rewards, the following conditions must be met to redeem points:

  1. Redemption must occur in the same region as the Microsoft account and not while traveling in another region. Using a VPN or proxy that hides the true location can cause geolocation or “traveling” errors. Disable any VPN/proxy and ensure the Microsoft account region is correctly set to the actual country/region before trying again.
  2. A valid, non-VoIP mobile or landline number is required for SMS verification. VoIP numbers are not permitted for Rewards verification. If the current number is VoIP or repeatedly fails, use a different non-VoIP mobile or landline number.
  3. A single phone number can only be used with a limited number of Microsoft Rewards accounts (maximum of six per household). If the number has already been used on multiple Rewards accounts, a different phone number is required.
  4. If there have been too many failed verification attempts, redemption may be temporarily blocked and require waiting up to 48 hours before trying again.

Microsoft Rewards and Microsoft account verification flows are designed around SMS/phone verification; email verification cannot be enabled instead of SMS for Rewards redemptions. When SMS cannot be used or is blocked, the only supported options are to:

  • Use a different, compliant non-VoIP phone number; and
  • Ensure there is no VPN/proxy and the account region matches the physical location.

If redemption errors continue after confirming the above, use Microsoft Rewards support for account-specific help, including issues with the new interface, invalid codes, or blocked redemptions. For non-Microsoft branded gift cards or persistent redemption problems, contact Microsoft Rewards Customer Support via the Rewards help links.

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. Sorry to know about this and as an alternative you may also check and try the below if you have not done it yet and also ensure that you are using a valid number from the country that you are situated in.

    • Logout and login to your account to every Microsoft Rewards dashboard that you are into.
    • Check and try the dashboard on the Bing app and see if it will be the same.
    • Check and try on a different browser as well and ensure that clean up the cache and also ensure that no extension/s installed might interfere with Microsoft Rewards.
    • Another thing that you can check and try is to use InPrivate browsing or Incognito mode on whichever browser you are using.
    • From the Bing app on your phone, use it to scan the QR code and the link would be a blank page and then check if you will be able to copy the link and paste it into a inPrivate or Incognito mode browsing window and check if it would open thus enabling it to complete the verification.

Please see the additional things to check as well below.

    • The phone number provided may have already been used on multiple Microsoft Rewards accounts: There is a limitation on the number of accounts (maximum of 6 accounts per household) that can be associated with one phone number. Please provide a different phone number to be able to redeem your Microsoft Rewards points.
    • You may have attempted to redeem Microsoft Rewards Points with a VoIP phone number: You'll need a mobile phone or land line number to redeem Microsoft Rewards points. Voice over IP (VoIP) numbers are not permitted. This requirement is outlined in the Microsoft Services Agreement. In order to redeem your points, you will need to provide a working non-VoIP phone number.
    • If you received an error message stating you are currently traveling: Microsoft Rewards points must be redeemed in the same region as your Microsoft account and cannot be redeemed while traveling in another market/region. Please wait until you return to your home country/region to continue to use Microsoft Rewards.
    • You might have entered the wrong code: Ensure that the code sent to your phone number matches the code you are entering. If you have had too many unsuccessful attempts at completing phone verification, you must wait 48 hours before attempting again.

If all else fails and if it will still be the same later today or tomorrow, you may submit a ticket via https://rewards.bing.com/support to have your account checked. Response times may vary due to workload or other tasks at hand, but rest assured that they will review your case and let you know on the outcome.
