    Hi Mike,

When you paste it on Word, ensure that you paste is as text so Word doesn't inherit any formatting from ChatGPT, so it won't carries out hidden formatting that may interfere with Word's ability to let you highlight or edit sections normally.

Once you pasted it as plain text, Word will treat it like clean text and you'll be able to highlight and edit sections without the issue repeating.

The behavior described matches known selection issues in Word where text selection stops working as expected after certain actions. There are two likely causes and corresponding fixes based on the provided context:

    1. If the issue is that multiple, separate pieces of text cannot be selected Word does not reliably support selecting non‑contiguous text with the keyboard. After one selection, trying to move with Ctrl + arrow keys to select another area causes the first selection to be lost. The supported workaround is to use the mouse only for multiple selections:
      1. Use the mouse to select the first text that should be changed.
      2. Hold down Ctrl on the keyboard.
      3. While still holding Ctrl, use the mouse to select the next text.
      4. Repeat step 3 for any additional sections.
This lets multiple separate areas be selected and formatted or edited at once.
    2. If the issue is that text selection in general “breaks” after pasting In some cases, selection problems are caused by other applications or overlays interfering with Word’s input (for example, overlays from other apps). A reported case was fixed by disabling the overlay/registration of Word in another app and restarting Word. If any overlay or screen‑annotation tools are running (such as game overlays, chat overlays, or similar), remove Word from those tools’ “registered apps” or overlays, then close and reopen Word.

If dragging to select text with the mouse fails intermittently, use alternative selection methods (such as clicking at the start of the text, then Shift + click at the end) as described in the referenced selection guidance.
