    Thank you for the information.

If the system detects a sign‑in from a new location or device, it may show an "unusual activity" alert. You will then need to verify your account to unblock it.

You may check this link for more information and how to avoid the unusual activity error: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/what-happens-if-there-s-an-unusual-sign-in-to-your-account-eba43e04-d348-b914-1e95-fb5052d3d8f0

    Best regards,

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

The error message, "Try another verification method" is an indication that your account is blocked due to the system detecting unusual activity, as stated by Microsoft, particularly the "I see a Try another verification method message" tab: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshooting-verification-code-issues-409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did

Your account password and verification methods will not work until the account block expires.

Kindly perform these steps to fix the error:

    1. Perform a password reset via Incognito/InPrivate window using different devices and network services.
    2. If it doesn't work, wait exactly 48 hours to reset the password.
    3. If the issue persists, kindly wait exactly 1 week to perform another password reset. The idea is to wait for the account lock to expire first before you reset the password.

Important: Please make sure not to attempt to sign in or reset the password within that timeframe (48 hours or 1 week), as this may reset the lock cooldown.

Thank you for your understanding! Please feel free to let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

When two-step verification is turned on, password reset requires successful verification with the available security methods. If one of the configured methods (such as the mobile number) cannot be completed and there is no additional method on the account, the system will block the reset and show messages like “Try another verification method.” This is by design to protect the account from unauthorized access.

Actions that can be taken in this situation are limited:

    1. Try another verification method if any exists
      • If there is any other method configured (alternate email, authenticator app, security key), use that instead of SMS. The guidance is to “try using another verification method connected to your account,” for example switching from SMS to an alternate email if available.
    2. Avoid repeated attempts
      • Excessive or repetitive verification attempts can trigger temporary or even longer-term blocks, which then cause the “Try another verification method” message. Waiting at least 24 hours (and up to several days) without repeated attempts can allow temporary blocks to clear.
    3. Try a different network or device
      • Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or use a different Wi‑Fi network, then try again. In some cases, traffic from a particular network or region can be temporarily blocked for security reasons.
    4. Use the sign-in helper
      • For sign-in issues, use the Microsoft sign-in helper tool referenced in the verification-code troubleshooting article. It can help identify the specific problem and show available support options.
    5. If still blocked, options are limited
      • If there is truly no other verification method available and the phone method cannot be completed, support agents are not allowed to override verification, send codes, or change account details for security reasons. In that case, the only options are to:
        • Wait for any temporary block to expire and try again with the same methods.
        • Use any recovery or verification method that becomes available again (for example, when regaining access to the phone number or device).

Because two-step verification is specifically designed so that access is impossible without the configured methods, it cannot be bypassed, even by support.
