    Hi Mark,

There are currently no known issues with AOL mail configuration in Classic Outlook.

May I know what server names are using for SMTP and IMAP?

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.

Use classic Outlook’s manual IMAP/SMTP configuration for AOL and verify the required settings.

    1. Confirm account type and password
    • In classic Outlook, AOL must be configured as an Internet email (IMAP/POP) account, not as Exchange or Microsoft 365.
    • If automatic setup fails even with the correct password, check whether AOL requires an app password for third‑party apps. When an app password is required, using the normal account password will cause logon failures. See the guidance under You might need an app-password in the Outlook setup article.
    1. Turn off Secure Password Authentication (SPA) If Outlook never prompts for a password or fails to authenticate to the IMAP server:
    • In the IMAP account settings dialog, make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unchecked.
    • If that does not help, recreate the account from Control Panel:
      1. Open Control PanelMailEmail Accounts….
      2. On the Email tab, select New.
      3. Enter name, AOL email address, and password in Password and Retype Password, then select Next and complete setup.
    1. Configure AOL manually if automatic setup fails If automatic setup still cannot log on to the IMAP server:
    2. In Outlook, go to FileAccount InformationAdd Account.
    3. Enter the AOL address, choose Advanced optionsLet me set up my account manually.
    4. Choose IMAP.
    5. Enter the IMAP and SMTP server details and credentials exactly as provided by AOL (server names, ports, encryption, and authentication). If the test fails, select Change Account Settings, correct the values, and try Connect again.
    6. Use POP3 as a workaround (if IMAP continues to fail) If IMAP authentication continues to fail and AOL supports POP3, configure a POP3 profile instead:
    7. Exit Outlook.
    8. Open Control PanelMailShow ProfilesAdd.
    9. Select Manual setup or additional server typesNext.
    10. Select POP or IMAPNext.
    11. Enter name and AOL email, then choose POP3 as Account Type.
    12. Enter AOL’s POP3 and SMTP server names, ports, and authentication settings, then Next and complete the tests.
    13. Set this new profile as the default under Always use this profile.
    14. Verify provider-specific SMTP settings For AOL and similar providers, ensure SMTP settings match the provider’s documentation. As a reference pattern, many providers use:
    • SMTP port 587
    • SPA: OFF
    • Authentication: ON
    • Encryption: TLS or SSL as specified by the provider

If, after these steps, IMAP still cannot log on, contact AOL support to confirm the current IMAP/SMTP server names, ports, encryption requirements, and whether an app password is required.
