Sharepoint won't create alerts for external users

I'm trying to create email alerts if anything in my Sharepoint Documents library gets modifed. I have checked the necessary settings suggested in this topic: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1045c5b8-f81c-4975-b6c5-e4ee7bf0e0d0/sharepoint-online-send-alert-to-external-users?forum=onlineservicessharepoint

But it didn't help. I have an external user in my tenant, with a gmail address and I can share content with this user without any issues. But when I try to create an alert and I set only this user as a recipient of the alert emails then hit OK, the alert won't be created. No error messages, no warnings, nothing. It just won't appear in the list of alerts. If I create an alert with an internal user's email address set as recipient, it will be created immediately. Do you have any suggestions? (Please do not suggest any solutions posted at the linked forum topic, I have tried all of those already).

    @Azazel90 ,

    Per my test, we can view or cancel an alert for another person on SharePoint via site settings>User alerts under Site Administration:

    In addition, please check the spam folder of gmail, alert emails from "******@sharepointonline.com" will be redirected to gmail spam folder by default:

    As a workaround, we suggest you create a rule in gmail to avoid it, try as following:

    1.Click settings>see all settings in gmail page:

    2.Navigate to Filters and Blocked Addresses option and create a new filter as shown below:

    3.If the from address is ******@sharepointonline.com, Never send it to spam:

    4.After that, the new alert email will appear in the inbox:
