Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To permanently close a personal Microsoft account (which also closes the associated Microsoft 365 consumer subscription and services like Outlook.com, OneDrive, Skype):
- Go to the Microsoft account close portal and sign in with the account to be closed: Microsoft Account Close Portal.
- Read the checklist on the page and complete any actions that apply (for example, saving important files/contacts, using remaining Skype Credit, cancelling subscriptions, turning off Auto-recharge, etc.).
- Select Next.
- On the next page, read the consequences of closing the account and select all confirmation checkboxes.
- Choose the re-open window (either 30 or 60 days).
- In Select a reason, choose why the account is being closed.
- Select Mark account for closure.
After this, the account is marked for closure and will be permanently closed after the chosen re-open period passes. During that period, signing in again can cancel the closure.
Note that closing a Microsoft account also removes access to Microsoft consumer services tied to that account (such as Outlook.com email, OneDrive, Skype, and any Microsoft 365 consumer subscription associated with it), and data is deleted after the reopen window has passed as described in the Microsoft Services Agreement.
