Hi, good morning,

I have had this account since 1998 or 1999, and I know someone is trying to hack the account. I was kicked out of my iPhone this morning, and when I tried to set up my account, it wouldn't accept my password. The information I have to access this account with other email addresses and telephone numbers is outdated and inaccurate. I have access to this account because my email is connected to my work laptop; otherwise, I wouldn't have access. I am requesting that my password and information be updated ASAP so I don't lose access to this email.

To keep access to the Outlook.com/Microsoft account and update password and security info, follow the supported self-service recovery paths:

    1. Reset the Microsoft account password
      1. Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page and enter the email address.
      2. On the Enter password screen, select Forgotten your password?
      3. Or use Reset password and enter the username, then select Next.
      4. Follow the prompts to receive and enter a verification code, then set a new password.
        • If no usable verification option is available or none are recognized, use the sign-in helper tool linked from the reset flow.
Reference steps: Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password.
    2. If the username and password have stopped working
      1. Use the Recover your account option:
        • Go to the recovery page and enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name.
      2. Choose where to receive the security code and complete verification.
      3. Create a new password when prompted.
      4. If the email is not recognized, try any other alias or phone number that was ever added to the account.
      5. If the message “We couldn't find an account with that username” continues, use the Sign-in Helper tool or contact support from the provided link.
    3. If sign-in still fails or verification options are outdated
      1. Use the Sign-in Helper tool referenced in the “I can't sign in to my Microsoft account” article to:
        • Look up the Microsoft account if the email/username is in doubt.
        • Troubleshoot verification code issues.
        • Get help when the username is not recognized or the account appears not to exist.
      2. If the account has not been signed in for more than two years, it may have been deleted and cannot be reopened.
    4. After regaining access, update security info immediately
      1. Sign in to the Microsoft account security page.
      2. Add current phone numbers and alternate email addresses as security info.
      3. Remove outdated or inaccurate security info so future verification codes go to current contact methods.
      4. Consider enabling stronger sign-in methods (such as Microsoft Authenticator) to protect against hacking attempts.

If the account appears hacked or compromised and security info has been changed by someone else, follow the hacked-account recovery guidance and complete the account recovery form with as much accurate historical information as possible. If the recovery form fails and security info has been replaced, there may be no additional method to restore access beyond the automated recovery tools.
