Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Premium are both home subscriptions that include the core Microsoft 365 benefits (desktop and web apps, cloud storage, AI features), but they differ mainly in how many people can use the subscription and in AI usage limits.
Key differences:
- Number of users
- Microsoft 365 Personal: For 1 person only.
- Microsoft 365 Premium: For 1 to 6 people (similar to Family in that it can be shared with up to five additional people).
- App availability and installs For both Personal and Premium:
- Include both web apps and desktop apps for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote for PC and Mac.
- Desktop apps can be installed on all devices, and the subscriber can be signed in on up to five devices at the same time.
- When shared (Family/Premium), each invited person gets the same install benefit and can also be signed in on five of their own devices at the same time.
- AI‑powered features and limits
- Personal or Family: Include new AI‑powered features (such as Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Designer) with standard usage limits.
- Premium: Includes the same AI‑powered features but with the highest usage limits for AI features.
- In both Family and Premium, AI benefits are only available to the subscription owner and cannot be shared with additional members.
- Feature updates and support For Personal, Family, and Premium:
- Desktop and web apps are always improving with ongoing feature updates, AI‑powered features, advanced security, and bug fixes.
- Include ongoing technical support at no extra charge and 1 TB of cloud storage per subscriber to store files and photos (for Family/Premium, each person added to the subscription gets their own 1 TB).
Summary:
- Choose Microsoft 365 Personal for a single user who needs full desktop apps, 1 TB storage, and AI features.
- Choose Microsoft 365 Premium when sharing with up to 5 other people and/or when higher AI usage limits are important, while still keeping AI benefits reserved for the subscription owner.
