Hello,
When Windows shows “This setting is managed by your organization”, it means a policy is controlling the microphone privacy settings.
Before trying to fix it, please check:
- Are you signing in with a work or school account?
- Is this PC managed by an organization?
If the device is managed, only your IT admin can change these settings.
If this is your personal PC and you are not using a work/school account, an old policy may still be applied.
Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, or Education:
- Press Windows key + R
- Type gpedit.msc and click OK
- Go to: Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → App Privacy
- Open “Let Windows apps access the microphone”
- Set it to Not configured
- Restart Windows
After restarting, the microphone settings should become editable again.
Windows Home:
Windows Home does not include gpedit.msc.
You can remove the same policy from the registry:
- Press Windows key + R
- Type regedit and click OK
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppPrivacy
- Delete LetAppsAccessMicrophone (if it exists)
- Restart Windows
This removes the same policy that controls the microphone access setting.
