Diagnostic Settings for Microsoft.Network/expressRouteGateways support

I have set up a expressRouteGateway@2021-02-01 connected to a Virtual Hub @ 2020-11-01 and trying to configure diagnostic settings to forward metrics to a log analytics workspace.

According to this https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/essentials/metrics-supported#microsoftnetworkexpressroutegateways some of the metrics support export via diagnostic settings, but when I am trying to configure this both through the portal and with Bicep deployment i get the error 

Failed to update diagnostics for '<gateway>'.{"code":"ResourceTypeNotSupported","message":"The resource type 'microsoft.network/expressroutegateways' does not support diagnostic settings."}.

    Hi @Mats Estensen , apologies for the delayed response. I need to get further clarification, but I did discover that diagnostic settings for Express Routes to a log analytics workspace is not supported. Until confirmed, I would error on it not being supported.

    EDIT: I've confirmed that ExpressRoute gateway for a Virtual WAN does not support monitoring. Reason being the appliance isn't an ARM type in the sense like ExpressRoute gateway for a Virtual Network, which does support monitoring. I'll get this reported so the documentation and portal states reflect this. Apologies for the confusion.

    Hi,

    I am trying to do a similar thing were I am trying to enable 'diagnostic Settings' on an ExpressRoute Direct resource (Microsoft.Network/expressRoutePorts/providers/diagnosticSettings). However, I am getting the same error:

    The resource type 'microsoft.network/expressrouteports' does not support diagnostic settings.

    Can you please confirm if 'diagnostic settings' is supported by ExpressRoute Direct resource?

    I am trying to do the same. Enable diagnostics settings for all metrics logs in ExpressRoute Direct. It still does not work, neither from portal nor via azure policy
