I am trying to download photos from my camera, and up until recently, I had no issues. Now I am getting a message that quotes Error 0x800701AA, and I am unable to download the photos. How do I fix Error Code 0x800701AA? Thank you.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for posting this.

I understand how troublesome it is when photo transfers that previously worked without problems suddenly fail with the error code. Ther error code 0x800701AA indicates that “the cloud operation was not completed before the time-out period expired.” This commonly occurs when Windows is trying to access or copy files that are stored or managed through OneDrive or another cloud-backed location, even when the files are coming from a camera or external device.

Here is what I recommend that you do to fix that:

    Pause or disable OneDrive temporarily

    • Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the system tray.
    • Go to Settings > Pause syncing.
    • Try downloading the photos again

Copy photos to a local folder

    • Create a folder such as c:\temp\cameraphotos
    • Copy the photos directly into this local folder instead of a synced folder (like Desktop, Pictures, or Documents if they sync to OneDrive).

    Check available disk space

    • Open Settings > System > Storage.
    • Ensure sufficient free space is available on the drive.

    Restart Windows Explorer

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Right‑click Windows Explorer and select Restart.

    Reconnect the camera

    • Safely disconnect the camera.
    • Reconnect it using a different USB port or cable if available.
    • Ensure the camera is set to file transfer / MTP mode.

If the issue persists, please make sure that windows is fully updated by going to the settings > windows update > check for updates.

    Hello Karen,

If you are using (OneDrive), Turn Off OneDrive Sync Temporarily.

Also, you can try disconnect everything and re-connect: Try different us cable or re-check your SD Card on your camera.

Finally, try to sync small amount of photos/videos like (20 ~ 30) per time especially if you are syncing hundreds of meda files.

    I hope that helps.

    Regards,
    Mustafa
