Open the Camera app in Windows, is your webcam w2orking in that app?

If it is, then open the Settings App, go to Privacy & Security - Camera and ensure all apps have permission to use the webcam.

Also, in WhatsApp, open its settings and check if the webcam is enabled in there.

    2

If the webcam is also not working in the Windows Camera app.

Look at the function keys (F1 - F12) on your keyboard, if one of them has a camera icon, press that key or Fn + that key to unlock the webcam.

    .

If that was not the problem, look at the camera lens above your screen, is there a small privacy slider that needs to be opened to access the webcam?

    .

If the webcam is still not working, go to the support page for your laptop on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and re-install the version of webcam drivers they provide.

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

Try these steps on the Windows 11 HP laptop to fix the camera for WhatsApp:

    1. Check physical camera controls
      • Look at the top of the screen for a small privacy slider over the camera and make sure it is open.
      • Check the function keys (F1–F12) for a camera icon; if present, press that key (often with Fn) to turn the webcam on.
    2. Confirm apps are allowed to use the camera
      1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
      2. Make sure Camera access is turned on.
      3. Make sure Let apps access your camera is turned on.
      4. Ensure Let desktop apps access your camera is turned on, since browsers and many calling apps (including WhatsApp Desktop/Web via the browser) need this.
    3. Test the camera in the Windows Camera app
      1. Open Start > Camera.
      2. Check if the preview shows an image.
        • If the camera works here but not in WhatsApp, the issue is with WhatsApp or browser permissions.
        • If it does not work here either, continue with the next steps.
    4. Update Windows and camera drivers
      1. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. If available, go to Advanced options > Optional updates and install any driver updates for the camera.
      3. Restart the PC using Start > Power > Restart (do not just wake from sleep).
      4. Test again with the Camera app and then with WhatsApp.
    5. Run the Windows camera troubleshooter
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Find Camera and select Run to let Windows detect and fix common camera issues.
    6. Check antivirus or security software
      • Some antivirus/firewall tools can block camera access. Open the antivirus settings and look for any webcam protection feature; temporarily disable it and test the camera again.

If the camera still does not work in any app after these steps, test it on another device (if it is an external webcam) or contact HP support for possible hardware diagnostics.
