Try these steps to resolve the issue where Microsoft Authenticator is not showing a code or prompt:

    1. Unlock the Authenticator app
      • Open Microsoft Authenticator on the device.
      • Make sure the app itself is unlocked (for example, via PIN, fingerprint, or face unlock). If it is locked, the prompt/entry box may not appear.
    2. Check notifications
      • Ensure notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator in the device settings.
      • Turn off silent/do-not-disturb modes that might hide prompts.
      • If SMS is configured as a backup, check text messages for a verification code that may have arrived silently.
    3. Update the app
      • Confirm that the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator is installed. An outdated app can prevent prompts or codes from appearing.
    4. Check network connectivity
      • Make sure the phone is connected to the internet (Wi‑Fi or mobile data).
      • If already connected, try switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data in case of network issues.
    5. Verify device date and time
      • On the phone, ensure date, time, and time zone are set correctly (preferably to automatic). Incorrect settings can cause authentication failures.
    6. If still unable to sign in
      • If the problem is that sign‑in cannot be completed at all, and credentials are forgotten, use the password reset option: Reset your password.
      • If verification codes (email/SMS) are not arriving, review the guidance in “Troubleshoot Microsoft verification code issues” (for example, avoid repeated requests, check junk folder, verify phone/email, and ensure the number is not VOIP).

If none of these steps restore the prompts or codes, use an alternate verification method that is already configured (such as SMS or email) to sign in, then review and update security info and sign‑in methods.
