microsoft pdf printer

Question

I'm trying to install Microsoft PDF printer (a free version) and so far cannot find it in the drop down of options. I have followd the instructions but the PDF printer is not a choice; i'm on Windows 11; what can i do?

Open the old Control Panel, not the new Settings App.

At the top of the old Control Panel, set View to large icons.

Open the Programs and Features applet.

Click 'Turn Windows features on or off' on the left.

In the resulting list, are you able to enable the 'Microsoft Print to PDF' function?

Use the built-in optional feature in Windows 11 to enable Microsoft Print to PDF.

1. Open the Windows Features dialog:
   • Press Windows + R, type optional features, and press Enter.
   • In the Windows Features dialog, look for Microsoft Print to PDF.
2. Turn on Microsoft Print to PDF:
   • Check the box for Microsoft Print to PDF.
   • Select OK and let Windows install the feature.
   • Restart the device if prompted.
3. Verify the printer is available:
   • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
   • Confirm Microsoft Print to PDF appears in the list.
   • It should now show up in the print dialog’s printer dropdown.

If Microsoft Print to PDF still does not appear or enabling the feature fails with error 0x800f0922, install the latest cumulative updates for Windows 11 that address known issues with the Printing-PrintToPDFServices-Feature. The known issue is documented for builds where the Microsoft Print to PDF printer disappears from Printers & scanners and enabling the feature can fail with 0x800f0922; later updates (such as KB5060829 or KB5062553, depending on build) include a fix.
