Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
In Outlook on the web and Outlook.com, there is no dedicated “Notes” module like in the classic desktop Outlook client. Notes stored in the desktop Outlook “Notes” area are kept in the mailbox (often in a special folder) and do not surface as a separate Notes section in the web interface.
To try to recover or locate the information:
- Check common mail folders
- In Outlook on the web, look in:
- Inbox
- Deleted Items
- Junk Email
- Any custom folders that might contain messages or items used as notes.
- In Outlook on the web, look in:
- Recover if it was deleted recently
- Go to the Deleted Items folder.
- If the notes were stored as email messages and were deleted, select the item and choose Restore to move it back to its original folder.
- If not visible there, at the top of the Deleted Items list select Recover items deleted from this folder.
- Select the items to recover and choose Restore.
- Items removed from Deleted Items are only recoverable for 30 days.
- Check Junk Email
- Open the Junk Email folder.
- If the note content was sent or stored as email and ended up here, select the message and use Report > Not junk or Move > Inbox to restore it.
If the Notes were created only in the desktop Outlook “Notes” module and were never synced or stored as mail items in folders visible on the web, they will not appear in Outlook on the web and cannot be recovered there. In that case, check the desktop Outlook profile or any Outlook data files (.pst) on the computer where the notes were originally created.
