I am using a Lenovo Ideapad laptop. The touchpad is not working and the driver for the touchpad is missing in the device manager. I have tried several methods found on google and youtube, nothing seems to be working. I would appreciate any help regarding this issue.

Look at the function keys (F1 - F12) on your keyboard, if one of those keys has an icon that looks like a touchpad with a line through it, press that key or Fn + that key to test if that enables the touchpad.

If that was not the problem, the best option is to go to the support page for your laptop on the Lenovo website to download and reinstall (not update) the version of touchpad drivers they provide.

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

On Lenovo Ideapad with a missing touchpad entry in Device Manager, the issue is typically a missing or corrupted driver. Use these steps focused on Windows 10:

    1. Run Windows Update to reinstall the touchpad driver
      1. In the search box on the taskbar, type check for updates, then select Check for updates from the results.
      2. Under Windows Update, select Check for updates and install all available updates, including optional driver updates if they appear.
      3. Restart the PC when updates complete and test the touchpad.
Windows Update is the recommended way to get the correct touchpad driver and often restores missing device entries after updates.
    2. Check Device Manager for the touchpad under the right categories
      1. In the search box on the taskbar, type device manager, then select Device Manager.
      2. In Device Manager, select View > Show hidden devices.
      3. Look for the touchpad under:
        • Human Interface Devices, or
        • Mice and other pointing devices.
      4. If a touchpad or HID-compliant touchpad appears with a warning icon, right‑click it and select Update driver, then follow the prompts to search automatically for drivers.
    3. Reinstall the touchpad via Device Manager (if it appears) If a touchpad device is listed (even hidden):
      1. Right‑click the touchpad entry under Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
      2. Select Uninstall device and confirm.
      3. Restart the PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver from Windows Update.
    4. If the touchpad still does not appear in Device Manager
      • Run Windows Update again after reboot to ensure all device drivers are pulled down.
      • If the touchpad device never shows up (even as an unknown device), this can indicate a hardware or firmware issue specific to the laptop model. In that case, contact Lenovo support or use Lenovo’s driver update tools to install the correct touchpad driver for the exact Ideapad model.

If updating or reinstalling the touchpad driver through Windows Update and Device Manager does not resolve the issue, the next step is to contact the laptop manufacturer for model‑specific assistance.
