Sending & Receiving Outlook Emails with Email Aliases

I have a M365 Premium subscription for Mac for home/personal use. I have added an additional email address that I would like to send and receive emails to and from. I'm struggling to set this up in my Outlook.com for Mac account settings. There's no option to select a default address from the email aliases drop down box & I'm unable to choose a primary alias from the "Manage or choose a primary alias" link. Has anyone ran into this issue?

Email aliases for an Outlook.com account are managed on the Microsoft account side, and sending from them is controlled in the Outlook.com compose window rather than in Outlook for Mac account settings.

To send and receive using an alias:

  1. Ensure the additional address is added as an alias to the Outlook.com account:
    • Go to Add an alias and add either a new Outlook.com address or an existing address as an alias, then select Add alias.
    • Remember that addresses already associated with another Microsoft account, or work/school addresses, cannot be added as aliases.
  2. Choose which address to send from in Outlook.com:
    • In Outlook.com, start a new message.
    • In the compose window, select Options > Show From so the From line is visible.
    • Use the drop-down next to From to pick the alias or connected account to send from. If it is not listed, choose Other email address… and start typing the alias.
    • Sent messages will appear in the same Sent Items folder regardless of which alias is used.
  3. Change the default From address (primary alias):
    • To change the default address shown when composing mail, change the primary alias of the Microsoft account using the steps under Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com. The primary alias is the one that appears on Microsoft devices and is used as the default From address.
  4. Notes and limitations:
    • The "+site" addressing feature (for example, ******@outlook.com) can only be used for receiving and organizing mail; it cannot be used as a sign-in identity or as a From address. To send from another address, it must be added as a true alias as described above.
    • If the alias cannot be selected as primary on the Manage or choose a primary alias page, it is likely restricted by the rules above (for example, already tied to another Microsoft account or a work/school address).

Once the alias is correctly added and set as primary (if desired), Outlook for Mac will use that primary alias as the default From, and the Outlook.com web interface will allow choosing any alias on the From drop-down when composing.
