A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Two-factor authentication (2FA) for an Activision account must be reset by Activision’s own account recovery and support process. Microsoft Authenticator (or any other MFA app) only stores the codes; removing the Activision entry from the app does not change Activision’s server-side 2FA settings.
From the Microsoft side, the only available actions are general MFA/verification guidance:
- If this were a Microsoft account or Microsoft work/school account, and the password is known but access to the authenticator or other security info is lost, the documented path is:
- Start sign-in.
- At the “Verify your identity” prompt, select I don't have any of these.
- Follow the instructions to replace security info.
- After replacement, sign-in is blocked for 30 days until the change completes, unless the old security info is used again during that period.
- For Microsoft accounts: use the Advanced security options page to add a new sign-in/verification method, then remove the lost one, or use the recovery form if the password is also lost.
- For work or school accounts: similar steps apply via the work/school sign-in and security info replacement flow.
- If the password is also not known and no security info is accessible, the documented Microsoft path is to submit the Microsoft account recovery form after reviewing the guidance on how to fill it out.
Because the question is specifically about an Activision account, these Microsoft recovery flows do not apply to that third-party service. To regain access to the Activision account, 2FA must be reset or removed through Activision’s own support and account recovery procedures.
