OneDrive Status Icons Missing in File Explorer After Update to Version 26.070.0414.0001

We are currently experiencing an issue where the OneDrive status column/icons are not showing on many computers. This happens on both existing laptops used daily and newly set up laptops during the first-time sync.

Although files are still syncing to the cloud successfully when updated, the OneDrive status icons are missing in File Explorer. When the status is not shown, some OneDrive functions such as file sharing are also not available.

We have tried several troubleshooting steps, including:

  • Unlinking this PC and signing in again
  • Reinstalling OneDrive
  • Clearing cache and restarting Explorer

However, the issue still persists.

We have just realized that this issue happens on devices that updated OneDrive to version 26.070.0414.0001. Devices still using the older version 26.063.0405.0002 are working properly.

This is how I solved it.

Press Windows Key + R copy and paste this path, and hit Enter:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    Hello Apichai Jaihao and everyone!

Thank you for reporting this issue to the Q&A forum.

From what you shared, after updating to a newer OneDrive version, the sync status icons (checkmarks/cloud icons) are no longer showing in File Explorer on your Windows, even though files still sync normally. You also mentioned that some related functions, such as sharing, are not available when the status is missing.

From recent reports, this behavior appears to be affecting multiple users at the moment, especially on newer OneDrive builds, so it may not be specific to your devices or configuration.

In this situation, I recommend sending feedback from the OneDrive app through Help & Settings > Send feedback or via Microsoft Feedback Portal, so the issue can be raised directly to the product team. Since this is a user-to-user community forum, we can only share suggestions based on what we have found and experienced, and no one here can check or change anything on the backend.

In the meantime, please also keep both OneDrive and Windows up to date, as this can help ensure any upcoming fixes are applied once they become available.

Thank you so much for your time and patience. Hopefully this issue will be addressed soon!

OneDrive Status Icons and Context Menu Missing in File Explorer (Windows 11) – Workaround

    Introduction

After recent OneDrive updates (builds 26.070+ and 26.074+) and Windows 11 updates (such as KB5089549), many users report that OneDrive’s File Explorer integration stops working.

    Typical symptoms:

    • The Status column is empty
    • Cloud/checkmark icons are missing
    • OneDrive context menu options are gone (Always keep on this device, Free up space, Share via OneDrive, etc.)
    • Syncing still works, but Explorer integration is broken

The cause is related to corrupted per‑user OneDrive registrations, identity caches, and shell extension metadata. The procedure below performs a complete reset of all OneDrive components per user.

    Workaround – Step‑by‑Step

    1. Make all files “online‑only” (per user)

Settings → Sync and backup → Advanced settings → Free up disk space Use Task Manager to verify when OneDrive is finished.

    2. Unlink the OneDrive account (per user)

Settings → Account → Unlink this PC

    3. Uninstall OneDrive (once per machine)

Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Microsoft OneDrive → Uninstall

    4. Delete the following folders (per user)

(Move them to the Recycle Bin first, just in case)

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneAuth

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\IdentityCache

%localappdata%\OneDrive        ← additional folder sometimes present (contains Cache)

    %userprofile%\OneDrive

    5. Rename the OneDrive registry hive (per user)

    Code

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive

    → HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive.old

    6. Reboot the machine

    7. Reinstall OneDrive

Run OneDriveSetup.exe (latest version from Microsoft).

    8. Sign in again (per user)

    OneDrive will now create:

    • a fresh SyncRoot
    • new identity tokens
    • new shell extension registrations
    • a clean provisioning state

This may take a while, depending on how many files and folders are stored in your Onedrive cloud

    9. Cleanup (per user)

    If everything works:

    • empty the Recycle Bin
    • delete OneDrive.old from the registry

    Result

    • Status icons restored
    • Context menu options restored
    • OneDrive sharing works again
    • Explorer integration fully functional

I opened a support case with Microsoft; they are aware and have suggested the following:

"I was reviewing the issue internally and the workaround for now is to rollback to an older version which you have also attempted.

Kindly rollback as the engineering team will be looking into this towards fixing it"

You can't rollback, so you have to do a full uninstall and then install an older version of the client. Once installed and working, you'll have to block all automatic updates for Windows and Office to prevent it from updating to the version with the issue.

We have experienced the same issue with three of our clients. As a workaround, I resolved it by performing the following steps:

    • Unlinked the account from OneDrive
    • Cleared the cache from following locations:
      %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive

      %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneAuth

      %localappdata%\Microsoft\IdentityCache

    • Renamed the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive to OneDrive.old
    • Rebooted the machine and signed back into OneDrive.
