A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Follow these steps to complete Azure sign-up when Microsoft Authenticator shows no code or cannot complete authentication:
- Unlock Microsoft Authenticator
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app and ensure it is not locked (no app lock/passcode screen blocking access). If it is locked, unlock it and try the sign-in again.
- Check notifications
- Ensure notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator on the device.
- Turn off “silent” or minimized notifications so prompts are visible.
- If SMS codes are being used, check text messages in case the code arrived silently.
- Update Microsoft Authenticator
- Install the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator from the app store. Outdated versions can prevent codes or prompts from appearing and may block sign-in until updated.
- Verify network and device settings
- Make sure the phone has a working internet connection (Wi‑Fi or mobile data). If one network fails, switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data and retry.
- Confirm the device’s date and time are correct (automatic time/date recommended). Incorrect time can cause code and sign-in failures.
- Retry Azure sign-up with phone verification
- During Azure sign-up, when prompted for identity verification by phone, ensure:
- The phone number is entered correctly with the correct country code.
- The phone can receive SMS or calls from a US-based number.
- If SMS does not arrive, use the “Call me” option.
- Wait up to four minutes for the verification code; if it does not arrive, retry or use a different phone number capable of receiving SMS.
- During Azure sign-up, when prompted for identity verification by phone, ensure:
If none of these steps work and the app still shows no code or cannot complete authentication, reset the password or contact the appropriate support or tenant administrator to reset MFA or authentication methods.
