Hi, I'm Bernard. I'm happy to help!

Can you try to open the Camera app and let me know the exact error message you have? While waiting, kindly follow the steps below:

Method 1. Check if the Camera has a slider to turn on or off the Camera (Usually at the top of the camera)

Method 2. Check the privacy settings of the Camera (Go to Settings > Privacy & Security> Camera (Make sure that the Camera access is turned on, especially in WhatsApp)

Method 3. Roll back the Camera Driver:

-Press the Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

    -Expand the Cameras

    -Look for your Camera driver

    -Right-click and click Update Driver

-Select Browse my computer for drivers

-Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer

-Choose an old driver or another driver name, then select it and hit next until it installs.

    -Restart the PC and check.

Follow these steps on Windows 11 to fix the black screen in Camera and the issue where some apps (like WhatsApp) cannot use the camera, while Teams/webcam tests work:

    1. Confirm camera privacy permissions
      1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
      2. Make sure Camera access is On.
      3. Make sure Let apps access your camera is On.
      4. In the list of apps, turn On camera access for the specific app (e.g., WhatsApp Desktop) if it appears there.
      5. At the bottom, make sure Let desktop apps access your camera is On (needed for many calling apps and browsers).
    2. Test if the issue is app‑specific
      1. Open Start > Camera.
      2. Check if the preview works.
        • If the Camera app shows video but WhatsApp does not, the problem is with WhatsApp (or the browser version of WhatsApp). Check that WhatsApp is using the correct camera in its own settings.
        • If the Camera app also shows a black screen, continue with the next steps.
    3. Check physical camera controls on the laptop
      1. Look for a function key with a camera icon (for example, F‑key with a camera symbol). Press that key, or Fn + that key, to toggle the camera.
      2. Check for a hardware slider or shutter near the camera lens and make sure it is open.
    4. Update the camera driver
      1. Select Start > Device Manager.
      2. Expand Cameras and locate the laptop camera.
      3. Right‑click the camera > Update driver.
      4. Select Search automatically for drivers and let Windows install any found driver.
      5. Restart the PC and test again in the Camera app and in WhatsApp.
    5. Check for Windows updates
      1. Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. If View optional updates appears, open it and install any camera or driver updates.
      3. Restart the PC (a full restart, not just waking from sleep) and test the Camera app and WhatsApp again.
    6. If still black screen in Camera app
      • Ensure the camera lens is not blocked and is clean.
      • If the camera works in Teams and on webcam test sites but not in the Camera app or WhatsApp after all steps above, reinstall or update WhatsApp (or try WhatsApp Web in another browser) and re‑check its camera permissions.
