    Hello @UrielVilla-450,

Regarding your concern, could you please clarify whether the file was shared with you by another user, or if it is a newly created file that you created directly in Excel or PowerPoint on the web? If the file was shared with you, its behavior will depend on the permission level granted by the owner. In this case, you can ask the file owner to re-share the file with Edit permissions.

If the file was newly created or is stored in your own OneDrive or SharePoint site, could you please confirm whether this issue occurs with all existing files in your OneDrive or SharePoint? Additionally, please provide a screenshot showing the View Only status.

Furthermore, may I confirm the type of subscription associated with your tenant? As an administrator, you can verify that the subscription is active and that a valid license is assigned to your account by opening Your products - Microsoft 365 admin center. If the subscription is deactivated or no license is assigned, the account may be placed in read-only mode. In such cases, you would need to purchase or assign the appropriate license.

You may also check whether your SharePoint site is in a view-only or locked state and unlock it by following the guidance in the document below: Lock and unlock sites - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn

If you have any update, please feel free to let me know.

The “view only” behavior is caused by restrictions or permissions on the files or features, not by the Copilot admin role.

    Check these common causes:

    1. Commands on the ribbon are disabled by policy
      • If buttons like Edit, Save, or formatting commands are greyed out, they may be disabled via Group Policy or other admin controls.
      • Resolution: Another higher‑level or tenant admin may have applied these policies. Contact the organization’s IT/tenant admin team to review and adjust any Office app restrictions that disable ribbon commands.
    2. File permissions or rights management
      • If the workbook or presentation is protected by Information Rights Management (IRM) or restricted permissions, even admins can be limited to Read access.
      • In PowerPoint, check the Message Bar for a notice such as “This presentation contains a permissions policy” and select View Permission to see what rights are granted.
      • If IRM or a rights template (for example, “Company Confidential”) is applied by another admin, only someone with Full Control or the template owner can change it.
      • Resolution: Ask the file owner or the AD RMS/IRM administrator to grant Change or Full Control permissions, or to remove/adjust the rights template.
    3. Organization‑wide feature restrictions
      • Some features or actions can be blocked by security/compliance policies, which can make editing or certain operations unavailable even though this is not an error.
      • Resolution: Coordinate with the security/compliance or tenant admin to review any feature restriction policies that affect Excel or PowerPoint editing.
    4. Copilot licensing vs. Office apps
      • Being an admin for Microsoft 365 Copilot or having Copilot licenses does not automatically grant edit rights to Office files. Editing still depends on the Office license and file permissions.
      • If Copilot license validation issues were recently resolved but editing is still blocked, the restriction is almost certainly due to file permissions or admin policies, not Copilot itself.

If the ribbon explicitly says the command is disabled by the administrator, only the organization’s IT/tenant administrator who manages policies and IRM can remove or change those restrictions.
