On Windows devices that implement a physical camera privacy shutter, the shutter can only be opened or closed by explicit user interaction with the hardware control.
Look for one of these on the device and move/press it manually:
- A mechanical slider near the camera lens (often above the screen on laptops or tablets). Slide it so the camera lens is no longer covered.
- A physical button that actuates an electromechanical shutter. Press it to open the shutter.
The shutter state cannot be changed by software. If the shutter appears closed (cover visible over the lens), privacy is protected until physical action is taken to open it.
