A fully managed end-to-end service for digitally signing code, documents, and applications. (formerly Trusted Signing)
The failure reason is that the organization identity validation could not be completed with the information available, and the system is now requesting additional supporting documents (issued within the last 12 months) to verify the organization. However, in Artifact Signing there are hard limits and constraints on identity validation retries and document submission:
- If identity validation fails and it is not just because of a missed email verification, it means the Microsoft validation team could not make a determination based on the information provided. Even if more documentation is requested and provided, if the team still cannot validate the information, onboarding to Artifact Signing is not possible.
- In scenarios where extra documents were required, there are only three attempts. After all three attempts are exhausted, the onboarding process cannot proceed further.
- If the email verification link was missed or expired, a new identity validation request must be created; the link cannot be resent for the same request.
- Creating multiple identity validation requests for the same entity while one is in progress does not help, and identity validation requests cannot be expedited.
Given the current “Failed” status and the message requesting additional documents, the only supported paths are:
- Create a new identity validation request
- Ensure the primary email address is valid, monitored, and able to receive external email.
- Watch for the email verification link and complete it within seven days.
- When prompted, upload organization documents that clearly verify the legal entity and match the information entered.
- If repeated attempts still fail
- If the validation team cannot validate the organization even after requested documentation, onboarding to Artifact Signing is not possible.
- In that scenario, the recommendation is to delete the Artifact Signing account so that billing does not continue for unused resources.
- If assistance or clarification is needed on this specific failed request
- Use Azure Support or Microsoft Q&A with the artifact-signing tag to have the Artifact Signing team review the specific Identity Validation ID and clarify what additional documents or corrections are required.
Because the validation logic and decisions are handled by Microsoft’s validation team and their ID verification vendors, the exact internal failure reason beyond “additional documents required” is not exposed in the portal. Direct engagement via Azure Support or Microsoft Q&A is required to get case-specific guidance.
