Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Is the external camera connected by USB cable or through Bluetooth?
    2. What exactly happens when you try to use it? For example, does the camera light turn on, or does Windows show any message?

    Please also check:

    • Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras
    • Device Manager > Cameras or Imaging devices

Do you see the external camera listed there?

If possible, share the camera brand/model and a screenshot of Device Manager after connecting it.

Follow these steps to get the external camera working on the Windows 11 laptop:

    1. Physically connect and test
      • Plug the external camera firmly into a USB port.
      • If possible, try a different USB port.
      • To rule out hardware issues, test the camera on a different device.
    2. Check that Windows detects the camera
      • Select Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Cameras.
      • If the external camera appears, right‑click it:
        • If Enable device is shown, select it to turn the camera on.
        • If Disable device is shown, the camera is already enabled.
    3. Check for a physical camera switch or shutter
      • On some laptops there is:
        • A function key (for example Fn + a key with a camera icon).
        • A dedicated camera key.
        • A side switch.
        • A small slider over the camera lens that closes a privacy shutter.
      • Make sure any such switch/slider is set to allow the camera.
    4. Allow apps to use the camera
      • Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera.
      • Under Allow access to the camera on this device, select Change and turn Camera access for this device On.
      • Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is On.
      • Under Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your camera, turn On the apps that should use the camera.
      • If using desktop apps (for example browsers or Microsoft Teams), make sure Allow desktop apps to access your camera is On.
    5. Use the Camera app to verify
      • Open Start, search for Camera, and open the Camera app.
      • If multiple cameras are present, use the camera‑switch button in the app (usually an icon that looks like two arrows in a circle) to switch to the external camera.

If the camera still is not detected (for example, error 0xA00F4244), recheck the USB connection, confirm it appears in Device Manager, and verify the privacy settings above.
