Authenticator no more backup on android device

I'm receiving an error when enabling backup on the authenticator app on an Android device. The backup option was already enabled until yesterday. Now the option is disabled, and if I try to re-enable it, I receive a generic backup failure message that suggests I send the log. I also tried to restore the backup on a new Android device with the same results. How can I resolve this issue?

The problem is now resolved. I didn't have to update the app or anything because I already had everything updated, and it still didn't work. The solution isn't updating; Microsoft provided the solution internally.

Hi all. I have been having the same issue and have found a resolution. On your device with the broken back up but working authenticator, select add account, select Microsoft account, sign into the account you use to back up your Authenticator and sign in, once done try the toggle to turn your back up on, you will find your credentials screen appears and the back up now works again. Hope this helps others too.

I've been having the same problem for over a week. I switched devices, and I can't back up my data on the old device, so I can't download the backup to the new one. An app is supposed to be reliable and secure, but when it's malfunctioning and unresponsive, it's more of a complication than a solution. Luckily, I have access to my old device and have to manually enter the codes one by one into Google Authenticator, but if I had lost my old phone, I'd be in serious trouble. Microsoft isn't offering any solutions.
