I just started a go daddy account for my business and I need to link my old outlook email to the new go daddy domain. How do I do that? thanks.

    Hi @Olivia Scarlett,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

It is possible to achieve this, although the exact approach depends on where your current mailbox is hosted. Based on official guidance from GoDaddy and Microsoft Learn, there are two common scenarios: either updating the domain on an existing Microsoft 365 mailbox provided by GoDaddy, or adding your new GoDaddy domain to Microsoft 365 and then switching your email address to use that domain.

Scenario 1: If your email is already hosted on Microsoft 365 through GoDaddy

If your existing mailbox is part of a Microsoft 365 plan purchased via GoDaddy, you may be able to change the domain associated with that mailbox. This is possible when the new domain is registered in the same GoDaddy account, uses the same DNS environment, and is not already connected to another Microsoft 365 tenant.

You can follow these steps in GoDaddy:

    • Sign in to your Email & Office Dashboard
    • Select Manage next to the email address you want to update
    • Under Account information, choose Edit
    • Next to Username, select Change domain
    • Choose your new domain and save the changes

Please note that the old and new domains can remain linked, and the original email address may continue to work as an alias or forwarding address. Changes can take up to 24 hours to fully apply.

For more information, please refer to Change the domain on my Microsoft 365 email account.

Scenario  2: If you purchased a new GoDaddy domain and want to use it with Microsoft 365

If your mailbox is managed in Microsoft 365 tenant, you can add your new domain and use it for your email account.

    • Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Settings > Domains > Add domain
    • Add your new domain and begin the setup process
    • If your domain is hosted with GoDaddy, you can use Domain Connect to automatically configure DNS records
    • Alternatively, you can manually add DNS records (such as TXT for verification and MX for mail routing).

After the domain is verified and configured:

    • Create or update user accounts to use the new domain
    • Once activated, Microsoft 365 will treat it as an “accepted domain,” allowing you to send and receive emails using that address

Note: For a smoother transition, Microsoft recommends setting up mailboxes before switching MX records to avoid disruptions. DNS updates with GoDaddy typically take around 15 minutes, though in some cases it may take longer to propagate.

To use the old Outlook email with the new GoDaddy-based Microsoft 365 business account, set up the new mailbox on the domain and then move or migrate the old mail into it.

    A typical approach is:

    1. Set up Microsoft 365 with the GoDaddy domain
      • In the Microsoft 365 admin center (from GoDaddy), add the custom domain and complete DNS setup so email for the business domain is hosted in Microsoft 365.
      • If GoDaddy is hosting DNS, follow the Microsoft 365/GoDaddy domain connection steps so MX and related records point to Microsoft 365.
    2. Add users and assign licenses
      • In the Microsoft 365 admin center, create a user for the business mailbox (for example, ******@yourdomain.com) and assign the appropriate Microsoft 365 license so Outlook and Exchange Online are enabled.
    3. Import email from the old Outlook account
      • In the Outlook desktop client, export the old mailbox to a .pst file:
        1. File → Open & Export → Import/Export.
        2. Choose “Export to a File” and export to a .pst.
      • Add the new Microsoft 365 account (on the GoDaddy domain) to Outlook.
      • Import the .pst into the new mailbox:
        1. File → Open & Export → Import/Export.
        2. Choose “Import from another program or file” and select the .pst.
This moves old email, calendar, and contacts into the new business mailbox.
    4. (Optional) Use GoDaddy’s Outlook Migration Assistant
      • If GoDaddy has provisioned Microsoft 365 for the domain, download and run the Outlook Migration Assistant on Windows. It can automatically create the new profile and migrate local .pst content (POP mail, contacts, calendars, tasks, signatures, autocomplete) into the new Microsoft 365 mailbox.
      • On the scheduled migration day, ensure DNS is switched to Microsoft 365 so new mail flows into the new mailbox.
    5. Wait for final sync
      • After DNS cutover and migration, allow up to 48 hours for GoDaddy’s migration process to complete syncing any remaining messages from the old server to the new Microsoft 365 mailbox.

Once these steps are complete, the business mailbox on the GoDaddy domain becomes the primary account, with all old Outlook mail imported or migrated into it.
