The warning indicates that the Microsoft unified cloud storage quota is (or was recently) exceeded, even if current usage now looks low. When the unified quota is exceeded, Outlook.com, OneDrive, and Teams can be restricted until the system registers that usage is back under the limit.
Take these steps:
- Confirm actual unified storage status
- Go to the Microsoft storage area of the account dashboard to see the combined quota and usage for OneDrive, Outlook.com, and other services.
- Also open Manage storage in OneDrive to verify current OneDrive usage and quota.
- Make sure usage is really below all limits
- For OneDrive: ensure total used space is below the OneDrive quota (for example, below 1 TB if using a Microsoft 365 Personal/Family subscription). If still close to the limit, delete more files or folders, or buy more storage.
- For Outlook.com: open Outlook.com Settings and search for Storage to confirm mailbox usage is below its quota. If needed, free up space using tools like Sweep and by emptying Deleted Items and Junk Email. Items only stop counting toward the quota after they are removed from Deleted Items.
- Wait for quota recalculation
- After deleting files or emails, it can take up to a few hours (and in some cases up to 24 hours) for the storage system to recalculate and clear warnings.
- If the account was over quota for a long time
- If OneDrive was over its limit for more than three months, the account can be frozen and services blocked. To recover, sign in to Manage your OneDrive storage, delete more content or add storage, and wait up to a few hours for the account to unfreeze.
- If warnings persist despite being clearly under quota
- Verify that the correct Microsoft account is being checked (some users have multiple accounts and the warning can refer to a different one).
- If the correct account is under quota and warnings or blocks continue after several hours, contact Microsoft support from the OneDrive storage page or Outlook.com help to have the storage state refreshed.
Once the unified storage usage is safely below the quota and the system has updated, the subscription warning should stop and Outlook.com/OneDrive should function normally.
