A cloud-based identity and access management service for securing user authentication and resource access
The error AADSTS5000224 indicates that the Microsoft Entra tenant associated with the account has been deauthenticated (blocked/removed) and is no longer available for sign-in. For a personal Azure free-credit account, this typically means the original tenant tied to the subscription is no longer active, so portal sign-in to that tenant fails.
Based on similar sign-in issues and tenant/permission problems in the context, the following steps are recommended:
- Clear cached sign-in state and try again
- Sign out of all Microsoft accounts in the browser.
- Clear browser cache, cookies, and site data for Microsoft/Azure sites, as described for Azure sign-in issues:
- In Edge: Settings → Privacy and Services → Clear browsing data → select Browsing history, Download history, Cookies, and Cached images and files → Delete.
- In Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear browsing data.
- Then open a new InPrivate/Incognito window and try to sign in to the Azure portal again.
- Try reactivating the Azure account via the signup flow
- A similar tenant-blocked scenario (AADSTS5000225) for an Azure free account was resolved by going through the Azure signup experience again in a clean/incognito browser session and using the same email address. The signup flow recognized the existing free account and allowed an upgrade to a pay-as-you-go account, which reactivated access to the tenant and subscription.
- In a private browser window with all data cleared, start the Azure signup experience and sign in with the same personal account that has the $150 credit. If the flow detects an existing free account, follow the prompts to continue/upgrade so the tenant becomes active again.
- If sign-in still fails, use a different tenant or contact Microsoft support
- If the tenant truly remains deauthenticated, the portal will continue to show the error and the tenant will not be usable. In that case, contact Microsoft support to review the tenant status and subscription, since self-service recovery may not be possible.
- If there is another tenant available in the drop-down on the error page, try selecting it and signing in there; however, the free-credit subscription will only be available in the tenant it was created in.
If none of these steps restore access, opening a support request with Microsoft is required so the tenant status and any remaining subscription benefits can be checked and, if possible, re-enabled.
