I have my Microsoft account registered on my laptop my my device does NOT show as registered on my account when I check it. I have tried everything, logging in and out several times, add a new account as administrator, remove it all back and forth but no results. I would like how to register it since my device is a Windows so I can see even my devices location through my Microsoft account online

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

Since the PC is not linked to your Microsoft account, I recommend manually adding the account by following the steps below:

    On your PC:

Go to Settings> Accounts > Under Microsoft Account, click Sign in > Then follow the prompt to sign in to your Microsoft Account.

Once done, kindly wait for 24 hours to sync the PC to your Microsoft account.

If the issue persists, kindly go to: https://account.microsoft.com/devices

    Select Register device

Then follow the prompts to register the device.

Note: It will ask for the serial number of the PC to get that:

Open Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) (Press the Windows key + X, then select Terminal (Admin))

Copy, paste, and enter the command:

    wmic bios get serialnumber

Note: This is a public forum. I may respond shortly, but I apologize in advance for any delays. I am simply a fellow user trying to provide helpful insights and information.

For a personal Windows 10/11 device, registration to a Microsoft account happens automatically when signing in with that Microsoft account on the device. There is no separate manual “registration” step for most Windows PCs.

    Key points and checks:

    1. Automatic device addition
      • Windows 10/11 devices (non-Surface) are automatically added to the devices list when signing in with a Microsoft account.
      • Only Surface devices support manual serial-number registration.
    2. Why the device might not appear
      • It can take up to 24 hours for a newly registered device to show in the devices list.
      • The device might already be associated with another Microsoft account.
      • If the PC is managed or owned by an organization (work/school), it cannot be registered to a personal Microsoft account.
    3. How to verify and manage devices
      • Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/devices with the same Microsoft account used on the laptop.
      • If the device is not listed:
        • Confirm that the signed-in account on the PC matches the account used on the devices page.
        • If it is a Surface device, use Register device on the devices page and enter the serial number.
      • If the device still does not appear after 24 hours and it is not organization-managed, contact Microsoft support via the device support options on that page.
    4. Location features
      • Once the Windows device is correctly associated with the Microsoft account, it can be managed (including location and lock features) from the same devices page, subject to Windows “Find my device” settings and permissions.
