Microsoft Defender causing high CPU usage after latest Windows update?

2026-05-22T03:52:17.71+00:00

After the latest Windows update, Microsoft Defender seems to use unusually high CPU resources in the background. I noticed the issue mostly during scans and while opening multiple Microsoft 365 applications.

I’ve checked

  • Windows Security settings
  • startup processes
  • scheduled scans
  • background apps

Still looking for a stable solution without disabling security features completely.

Has anyone else experienced this issue recently on Windows 11?

Thanks in advance.
