    Hi!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Can you confirm what to encrypt, is it the whole backup file itself of just certain folders or files? Are you done doing a backup already?

To encrypt backups that are stored on a Windows 11 PC, use the built-in encryption features so that copied/backup files from the iPhone are protected if someone gains access to the PC.

    1. First, transfer or back up the iPhone data to the PC (for example, by importing photos/videos from the phone to the PC using USB or Phone Link).
    2. After the files are on the PC, encrypt either the specific backup folder or the entire drive where the backups are stored.

To encrypt a specific backup file or folder (Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise):

    1. In File Explorer, locate the backup folder that contains the copied iPhone data.
    2. Right-click the folder and select Properties.
    3. Select Advanced....
    4. Select Encrypt contents to secure data.
    5. Select OK, then Apply, then OK again.
      • This encrypts that folder so only the account that encrypted it (or accounts with the proper key) can open the contents.

To encrypt the entire drive (Device Encryption):

    1. Sign in to Windows with an administrator account.
    2. Open SettingsPrivacy & securityDevice encryption (or use the shortcut: Device encryption).
    3. If available, turn Device encryption On.
      • Device Encryption uses BitLocker technology to encrypt the operating system drive and fixed drives, protecting all data on those drives, including backups.
      • A BitLocker recovery key is stored with the Microsoft account or work/school account used on the device.

    Notes:

    • File/folder encryption (EFS) is not available on Windows Home editions; in that case, use Device Encryption if the device supports it.
    • Ensure the BitLocker or encryption recovery key is backed up safely (for example, to the Microsoft account) so access to the encrypted backup is not lost.
