I got a new computer but I don't remember my password. I didn't set up a PIN and now i am unable to do so without a password. When i try to receive a verification code it does not work since the number affiliated to the email account is a home phone. I tried calling microsoft but I am unable to speak to someone, since they keep saying that for any help I need to go online.

Can someone please help me

Follow these steps to regain access to the Microsoft account used with Outlook on the new computer:

    1. Start the password reset
      • Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page.
      • Enter the Outlook email address.
      • On the Enter password screen, select Forgotten your password?
      • Or use the Reset password link: Reset password.
    2. Try available security options
      • In Step 2: Verify your identity, choose how to receive a verification code.
      • If the only option shown is a home phone that cannot receive texts, and there is no usable option:
        • Use the sign-in helper tool linked in the instructions:
    3. If no verification method works
      • If there is no access to any listed phone/email and the password is forgotten, use the account recovery form:
      • Provide as much accurate information as possible (previous passwords, contacts, subject lines, etc.) so ownership can be validated.
    4. If verification codes are not arriving
    5. After recovery succeeds
      • Once signed in again, go to Advanced security options for the Microsoft account and:
        • Add a mobile phone or alternate email that can receive codes.
        • Keep the home phone as secondary if desired.
      • Then set up a Windows sign-in PIN on the new computer.

If all online recovery attempts fail, support agents cannot override verification or directly reset the password; account recovery is handled only through the automated tools and forms.

    Hi,

I understand how frustrating this situation can be, especially with a new computer.

Do you have another verification method linked to the account, such as an alternate email address? If yes, please try sending the verification code to that option instead.

If you no longer remember the password and do not have access to any working verification method, you will most likely be unable to reset the password normally.

In this case, your best option is to try recovering the Microsoft account using the official account recovery form here: https://account.live.com/acsr

Using any working device, preferably with the Edge browser, open the link above and fill out the form carefully. Try to provide as much accurate information as possible about the account, such as previous passwords, contacts, subjects of recent emails, or other details that may help Microsoft verify ownership of the account.

Once you recover the account, you can then reset your computer password to regain access.

If the recovery attempt is unsuccessful, I’m sorry, but Microsoft cannot bypass the account security system for safety and privacy reasons.

At that point, the remaining options would be to reset the PC or perform a clean installation of Windows using a bootable USB drive.
