I confirmed my payment method for Office 365 but get constant notifications that I may lose access if I don't update the payment method. How do I stop that?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

When you sign in to your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services does the subscription show as active there, or still unpaid?

If active, please try these steps if you haven’t already:

    • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
    • Then, open any Office app (like Word or Excel), go to File > Account, and click "Update License" to refresh your license status.

    If issue still persists:

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

The recurring “update payment method” or “you may lose access” notices usually mean Microsoft 365 is seeing a payment or subscription status problem, even if the card was recently confirmed.

    Do the following in order:

    1. Verify the subscription is active
      1. Close all Office apps.
      2. Go to your Services & subscriptions page.
      3. Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the subscription.
      4. Under Microsoft 365, confirm the status is active (not expired or suspended). If it is expired, renew it using the on‑screen steps.
    2. Check and fix payment information
      1. Close all Office apps.
      2. Go to your Payment options page.
      3. Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
      4. If the payment method shows any error or declined status, update the card details (number, expiry date, billing address) or replace it with another valid payment method.
      5. Ensure there are sufficient funds and that the bank is not blocking Microsoft charges.
      6. After updating, restart Word or another Office app and confirm whether the banner disappears.
    3. If notifications persist after renewal/payment fix
      1. Confirm that the subscription’s expiration date online is correct using the steps in find out when your Microsoft 365 subscription expires from the same Services & subscriptions page.
      2. If the date looks wrong or the banner still appears despite an active, paid subscription, contact Microsoft Support from the subscription page so they can correct any account-side issue.

If no action is taken and there really is a payment problem, Office will eventually go into reduced functionality mode (documents can be opened and printed, but not edited or created), so resolving the subscription and payment status is required to stop the warnings permanently.
