To help narrow down the issue:
- Did you purchase the subscription directly from Microsoft or from a third-party retailer?
- Also, is your current Family subscription still active right now?
You can switch from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Personal (Single), but it depends on the timing.
Here’s the easiest way to do it:
- Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services
- Find your Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage
- Turn recurring billing off so it doesn’t auto-renew
- Once the current plan expires, you can then purchase Microsoft 365 Personal and use the same Microsoft account
If renewal is happening now and you’re being blocked from switching, that’s normal, Microsoft doesn’t allow mid-cycle plan downgrades. The change becomes available after the Family plan ends.
