Hello,

I own a ASUS Vivobook laptop and have windows 11 already installed and my device is licensed. So, a few hours ago I had to run an update program you know the usual ones like wanting us to run some update programs on laptop? Yes, one of those. so almost an hour later my laptop restarted and in the settings it was written 'Windows 11 is on activated on your PC' so I activated it, ran troubleshoot but no nothing is working, It is asking for a product key? where do i get that from? I checked emails, and even on the box of my laptop, I went to cmd ran administration but nothing happened

    Hi,

Please specify the type of license you have and where you purchased it.

In the search bar, type 'Command Prompt' and run it as administrator.

Then, copy and paste the command below and press Enter. A pop-up will appear; please share a screenshot of that window.

    slmgr.vbs /dlv

Windows 11 on an ASUS laptop that came preinstalled is usually activated with a digital license tied to the device hardware, not with a printed product key. After some updates, Windows can temporarily show as not activated, or it may lose the license association and ask for a key.

Use these steps supported in the context:

    1. Check activation status correctly
Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation and verify what is shown there. This is the official place to see if Windows is activated or not.
If it shows not activated or an error code, continue with the next steps.
    2. Run the Activation troubleshooter
The troubleshooter can often fix common activation issues automatically.
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
      • If Windows is not activated, there will be a Troubleshoot button. Select it.
      • Follow the on‑screen steps.
If needed, you can also open it from Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot.
The troubleshooter will try to find and apply the correct digital license for the device. If it finds a valid digital license for a different edition, it will guide through installing the correct edition.
    3. If an error code appears
If the troubleshooter fails and an error code is shown (for example 0xC004F034, 0xC004C003, 0xC004F211, 0xC004F213, 0xC004F212), use the guidance in the activation error article to see what it means and what to do next.
      For example:
      • 0xC004F034 – often means an invalid key or a key for a different Windows version/edition. Enter a valid key that matches the installed edition, or contact the organization if the device uses KMS.
      • 0xC004C003 – the key is not valid or has been used on multiple devices; the article suggests running the troubleshooter, checking for a paper key, or contacting the reseller/manufacturer.
    4. If the device had a hardware change
If there was a significant hardware change (for example, motherboard replacement), Windows may not find the original digital license and will ask for a key. In that case, follow the documented path for reactivation after hardware change using the Activation troubleshooter and the “reactivate after a hardware change” option.
    5. If no product key is available
For devices that came with Windows 11 preinstalled, the key is usually embedded in firmware and not printed. If the troubleshooter cannot restore activation and no key is available, the official guidance is:
      • Use Start > Settings > System > Activation > Go to Microsoft Store to purchase a new license, or
      • If the device is new or came with Windows 11 preinstalled and activation fails, contact the device manufacturer or customer support using the activation error article’s guidance.

The product key generally is not in email or on the box for OEM‑preinstalled Windows 11; activation is normally automatic via the digital license. Focus on the Activation page in Settings and the Activation troubleshooter rather than searching for a printed key.
