Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Microsoft account email (for example Outlook.com) can receive notification emails that PayPal sends, but it cannot be used as a PayPal payout or funding account by itself.
To use PayPal with Microsoft services and receive PayPal-related emails in a Microsoft mailbox:
- Add PayPal as a payment method on the Microsoft account so Microsoft can charge PayPal for purchases or subscriptions:
- Go to the Microsoft account Payment options page.
- Select Add a new payment method.
- Choose PayPal and complete the setup. Note that only PayPal accounts with a credit card or confirmed bank account as a funding source are accepted.
- Ensure the PayPal account is correctly funded and active. If PayPal cannot be added or used:
- Verify the PayPal account has a valid credit card or confirmed bank account.
- If payment fails, check that the linked card has sufficient funds and is not expired.
- Any payment notifications that PayPal sends to the email address registered on the PayPal account will arrive in that mailbox, including Outlook.com or other Microsoft email addresses, just like normal email.
For receiving payouts from Microsoft (for example, Marketplace sales), PayPal can be configured as a payout account in supported regions by creating a PayPal payment profile in Partner Center. In that case, Microsoft sends proceeds to the PayPal account; notifications about those payouts are handled by PayPal and Microsoft via their usual email channels.
