    Hi!

What blocking message appears on your computer? Take a picture and attach it to the topic.

    • Is the blocking message from BitLocker itself? When you enter the key, does any error message appear?

I need all the details of your problem to try to help you.

To regain access, the BitLocker recovery key must be entered exactly where Windows is asking for it. The BitLocker code shown on the blue recovery screen is the Recovery Key ID, not the 48‑digit recovery key itself.

    Use these steps:

    1. Confirm what code is being entered
      On the blue BitLocker screen:
      • The Recovery key ID is a GUID-like value (groups of letters/numbers with hyphens).
      • The Recovery key that must be entered is a 48‑digit numeric key (hyphens optional).
If only the Recovery key ID is available, that cannot unlock the PC. The 48‑digit recovery key must be located.
    2. Find the 48‑digit BitLocker recovery key
Depending on how the device was set up, the key may be stored in one of these places:
      • A Microsoft work or school account:
From another device, go to https://aka.ms/aadrecoverykey, sign in with the work/school account used on the locked PC, select Devices, expand the device, then choose View BitLocker Keys and match by Key ID.
      • The My Account Devices page for work/school accounts: from another device, open the Devices page of the My Account portal and select View BitLocker Keys for the locked device.
      • A home Microsoft account: follow the guidance in Find your BitLocker recovery key to check the Microsoft account, printouts, or USB flash drive where the key may have been saved.
      • A printout: check any printed BitLocker key documents.
      • A USB flash drive: if the key was saved as a text file, open it on another device.
    3. Enter the recovery key correctly
      On the BitLocker recovery screen:
      • Type the 48‑digit numeric recovery key (not the Recovery key ID).
      • Hyphens are optional; they do not affect validation.
      • If correct, the device will start into Windows.
    4. If the recovery key cannot be found
If the 48‑digit recovery key is not available in any of the locations above, BitLocker protection cannot be bypassed by Microsoft or anyone else. In that case, the only remaining option is to reset or reinstall Windows using recovery options, which will remove all files on the encrypted drive.

For organization‑managed devices, contact the organization’s IT support; they may be able to retrieve the key from the tenant.
