I'm trying to transfer photos to Onedrive. It says I need around 200 GB, but I have only used 18% of 1T subscription. I bought another 200 GB but this did not fix the problem.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Could you check how much storage is shown when you sign in to OneDrive web https://onedrive.live.com?

Also, where did you purchase the additional 200 GB storage? Was it purchased through Microsoft, your mobile provider, or another service?

Sometimes newly purchased storage does not appear across all Microsoft services right away. It can take 24 to 48 hours for the updated storage allocation to sync everywhere.

The most likely cause is that the Microsoft cloud storage quota (OneDrive + Outlook.com) is already exceeded or not yet updated with the extra storage, even though the OneDrive usage bar alone shows only 18%.

    Use these steps to resolve:

    1. Confirm actual cloud storage usage and limits
      • Go to Manage your OneDrive storage / Storage used from OneDrive on the web.
      • Check:
        • Total storage available (should show 1 TB plus any additional storage purchased).
        • What is using space: OneDrive files, items in the OneDrive Recycle Bin, and Outlook.com mail/attachments if they share the same Microsoft storage pool.
      • If the Recycle Bin has many items, empty it; Recycle Bin content counts against the quota.
    2. Get back under quota if storage is exceeded
      • If the storage page shows the account is over quota, OneDrive will block new uploads even if some space appears free.
      • Delete or move files you do not need from OneDrive, then empty the OneDrive Recycle Bin.
      • If Outlook.com is using a lot of space, follow the guidance in How to reduce your cloud storage (clean up email, remove large attachments, etc.).
    3. Verify that the extra 200 GB has been applied
      • After purchasing additional OneDrive storage, it can take up to 24 hours for the new quota to show across services.
      • Go to the Manage storage page and refresh it to see if the extra 200 GB appears.
      • If the quota still has not updated after 24 hours, try unlinking and relinking the OneDrive account on the PC so the client picks up the new quota.
    4. If storage still looks wrong
      • If, after 24–48 hours, the storage page still does not show the purchased capacity and OneDrive still reports insufficient space, contact OneDrive/Microsoft 365 support from the official support links on the storage or OneDrive help pages.

Key behaviors to keep in mind:

    • If Microsoft/OneDrive storage is exceeded, no new files can be uploaded, edited, or synced until the account is back under quota, even if the local disk has space.
    • OneDrive storage includes all OneDrive files and anything in the OneDrive Recycle Bin.
