Two accounts

Question

I have 2 microsoft accounts and subscribe to office 365 on one,

I would like to cancel one account and just use the one I am subscribed to, the issue is that the one I want to cancel seems to be the one that onedrive uses for my photos, all a bit of a mess really.

Unfortunately, you cannot transfer the Office 365 subscription from one account to another. So, here are the two options you have now:

1. Move the OneDrive files from your Account A to Microsoft Account B, which has the Office 365 subscription. To do that, you will have to download all the files from your Account A to your local computer and then upload them to Account B. (OR)
2. Cancel the subscription on Account B and then subscribe on Account A, which already has your OneDrive files.

Please check which option suits you best. Depending on that, you can close the Microsoft account you no longer want to keep.

Microsoft personal accounts and Microsoft 365 work or school accounts cannot be merged or “cancelled” into each other, but they can be used side by side. The practical approach is:

1. Keep the Microsoft account that has the active Microsoft 365 subscription as the main account.
2. Move or reconfigure OneDrive so photos are stored under that main account.
3. Then stop using the other account and cancel any subscriptions tied to it.

To cancel a Microsoft 365 or other Microsoft subscription on the account you no longer want to use:

1. Go to Subscriptions and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription you want to cancel.
2. Find the subscription and select Manage.
   • If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and you won’t be charged again.
3. On the next page, select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel, depending on what is shown).
4. Follow the on‑screen steps to complete cancellation.

If the extra account has no paid subscriptions, simply stop using it and remove it from devices. OneDrive itself is tied to the account; it can’t be merged, so photos should be backed up or downloaded from the old account and then uploaded or synced using the account that has the active Microsoft 365 subscription.

If there are sign‑in issues or confusion over which account is which, use the Microsoft account dashboard and the “If you have two accounts with the same email address” guidance to identify and manage each account separately.
