Cannot access Azure due to MFA loop – Authenticator reinstalled but Entra ID still expects old registration

This is an authentication issue related to Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), not a specific Azure service.I am completely locked out of Azure due to a broken MFA configuration and have been stuck in a login loop for several hours.

Context:

  • I use a personal Microsoft account (******@terra.com.br)
  • My Microsoft Authenticator was reinstalled on my device
  • After reinstalling, Azure (Microsoft Entra ID) continues to expect the old MFA registration that no longer exists

Current behavior:

  • When I try to sign in to portal.azure.com:
  • Push notifications do not arrive
  • Verification codes from Authenticator are rejected
  • Passkey (QR code) does not work ("no passkeys found")
  • Email verification is not accepted as a full login method
  • I am forced into MFA validation but none of the methods work
  • The system loops indefinitely between:
  • "approve request in Authenticator"
  • "enter code"
  • "try another method"

Additional issues observed:

Important:

  • Authenticator has already been reconfigured on the Microsoft Account (MSA) side
  • However, Azure MFA (Entra ID) appears to be out of sync with the current device
  • I have no alternative admin access to reset MFA
  • Azure support requires login, which I cannot complete due to MFA

Business impact:
I currently have Azure resources and services associated with this account that I need to access.
Being locked out is preventing me from monitoring, managing, and ensuring these services continue to operate correctly.

This is now a blocking issue (critical access problem).

Request:

I need a Microsoft engineer to:

  • Reset MFA for my Entra ID identity
  • Force re-registration of authentication methods
  • Or remove existing authentication methods tied to this tenant

    Thank you for the explanation.

    To clarify:

    • There is no other global administrator in this tenant
    • I am the only admin
    • All MFA methods are currently unusable (Authenticator push, codes, passkeys)
    • I cannot access Azure portal or Security Info
    • I also cannot open an Azure support ticket because login requires MFA

Therefore, none of the self-service or admin recovery options are applicable in my case.

This clearly matches the single-admin tenant lockout scenario described.

Given that, I believe escalation to the Data Protection / Tenant Recovery team is required, as there is no remaining recovery path available.

Could this case please be escalated accordingly?

This is a single-admin tenant and I have no alternative way to reset MFA. I cannot access Azure Support because login itself requires MFA. This appears to match a tenant lockout scenario. Can this be escalated to Microsoft’s Data Protection / Tenant Recovery team?
