Hi,

I am Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert. I have an expiration date for my cert listed as Expires Oct 2026

Credential ID 52AAD2EC65D5BFD2

I am unable to take the assessment online. It is grayed out.

In addition, I have this banner: "You'll need to earn this certification before you're eligible to renew it."

Thanks

You need to check that you are signed into Microsoft Learn with the correct email account

Are you seeing the certification under https://learn.microsoft.com/users/me/credentials/?tab=credentials-tab

If you still cannot see it try Microsoft Credentials support https://aka.ms/credentials-support

The renewal assessment becomes available only in a specific window and only if the certification is currently active.

Key points based on the described behavior:

    1. Role-based expert certifications (like Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are valid for one year from the date all requirements were completed and must be renewed before the expiration date.
    2. The renewal window opens 6 months (180 days) before the certification expiration date. Outside this window, the renewal option will be unavailable or grayed out.
    3. The banner “You’ll need to earn this certification before you’re eligible to renew it” appears when the system does not see an active, earned certification that is currently eligible for renewal. This typically happens if:
      • The certification has not yet entered its 6‑month renewal window, or
      • The certification has expired and is no longer renewable.
    4. Once a certification expires, it cannot be renewed. The only option is to re-earn it by passing the required exam(s) again.

    Actions to take:

    1. Confirm the certification status and exact expiration date in the Certifications section of the Microsoft Learn profile.
    2. If the certification is active and within 6 months of the expiration date, the renewal assessment should be available. If it is still grayed out while in that window, contact Microsoft certification support via the Microsoft Learn support channels.
    3. If the certification has already expired, it cannot be renewed; it must be re-earned by passing the required exam(s).
